Fund-raiser for Wakatipu High School – a Gold coin for a Cap enables a Pupil to join the class mates in Branches Camp
Queenstown Heritage Tours Ltd. organized a small fund-raiser for Wakatipu High School for their Branches Camp. Every year in December, the High School takes their year 10 students to the Branches in Skippers Canyon. For two weeks, the students are isolated, while experiencing outdoor pursuits including abseiling, rafting, tramping, bush craft, kayaking, shooting and archery as well as training important personal and leadership skills.
Queenstown Heritage Tours Ltd. takes tourists into Skippers Canyon on a regular basis. During November, the company sold its merchandise as usual, but donated a gold coin for every sold item to the Branches Camp Trust, maintained by Wakatipu High School.
“We were quite overwhelmed with the generosity of our guests” says Yasmine Sander, Owner of Queenstown Heritage Tours Ltd. “The majority of our customers donated some coins without even buying the merchandise. We explained them where the students will experience some amazing moments and they were very happy to support this initiative.” explains Mrs Sander further.
This fund-raiser initiative was inspired by the feedback of Mrs Sander’s son who joined the Branches Camp last year. “He told us that some parents had struggled to pay for the camp. The current economic challenge does not make any payments for camps like this easier.” believes Mrs Sander.
Just before the start of the camp, the owner of Queenstown Heritage Tours Ltd. handed over more than NZD400.—. “We are very proud to be able to do this. Even though, it is only a small token, we are happy to support Wakatipu High School” says Mrs Sander.
Queenstown Heritage Tours Ltd specializes in sightseeing tours into Skippers Canyon. Skippers Tours can be combined with a Wine Tour to experience a full day in the Wakatipu Basin. They employ 7 on-call Driver-Guides and have been offering their service into Skippers Canyon for more than 10 years now.
